Many of our pictures we do on a daily basis, end up on some folder on our phones or computers and are forgotten. Remembering my mom’s photo-box (and I am sure you know something from your family in a similar way), where she kept all the wobbly, un-sharp, unstraight pictures from my childhood, I wanted to start creating something similar. Beginning of last year, I bought myself a proper printer from Canon (it is a really high-end print that can do up to A2 paper size) and I started printing my favorite pictures. And I fell in love with my photography all over again.
The great thing about prints for me are:
– CONSTANT REMINDERS: You are reminded of great moments without having to go into your phone or computer. You just pass them randomly at home when you hang them and remember the time you took the shot or went on that great holiday or go back to that moment.
– GREATER DETAILS: When you get a big print, like A3, you start seeing detail in your images that you never have seen on your tiny phone screen before. It gives you a better sense of the picture. And moreover, you can choose between amazing quality papers that give another feeling to your picture that online pictures just can’t convert.
– AMAZING GIFTS: We struggle sometimes with giving gifts to our friends, but since we have a printer, we can gift our family and friends‘ precious experiences.
One thing to keep in mind when printing your shots: Make sure to let a software (either from your printing company on your computer) run over your pictures to calculate the right amount of color that will be printed on the paper. If you look a picture on a screen, it is backlit, meaning that light comes from behind the picture, so f.i. black seems brighter than it actually is. But don’t be afraid, just check the box for „auto-color-correction“ when you order your prints.
You don’t need a high-end printer like mine, there are so many amazing ones out there, so here are my favorite printers and online-services:
My printer – Canon 1000p (super high quality, but very expensive for a single picture, and huge, it literally cannot be carried alone)
The party printer for everyone – Fujifilm Instax Share SP-3 – The Fuji printer is amazing and lets you print every picture directly from your phone like it was a Polaroid.
Online Print Services:
Whitewall – great products with a multitude of different ways of printing your pictures.
Saal-Digital – for all tiny prints and classic photo prints up until A1, I love matte paper from Hahnemühle.
Have fun printing your memories.
